Successful Missouri Wing Aviation Day
More than 70 members of Missouri Wing participated in the annual Aviation Day at the state capitol on March 25th.
As the world of aviation is rapidly changing, our legislators need to understand how these changes will affect aviation in the state of Missouri. This year’s event marks nineteen years in which all segments of the aviation industry have converged on Jefferson City to meet with legislators.
Other organizations that participate in this event include but are not limited to: Missouri Airport Manager's Association, Missouri State Aviation Council, Missouri Pilots Association, and CAP Missouri Wing. This is a great event not only to meet with legislators but also to build relationships with strategic partners such as these organizations.
National Congressional funding is used for procurement of CAP planes, vehicles, radios, and equipment. State of Missouri funding, meanwhile, supports CAP requirements such as hangar fees for our nine aircraft and one glider. Engagement with our elected officials helps them to understand the criticality of past funding, the necessity of future funding, and the negative impacts if this funding is not provided. CAP members (adult and cadet) use Aviation Day to effectively make this argument with our state legislators.
Unique to this year’s event was the incorporation of a communications training exercise as members arrived to and departed from Jefferson City. Other activities included: tours of the Capitol, Missouri Supreme Court, Secretary of State’s Office, and Whispering Gallery; introduction on the floors of the Senate and House of Representatives; and, of course, meeting with legislators.
